At All Saints, our Christian vision is that, through the power of God’s love, children will reach their true potential and be able to live their lives with an open mind so that they learn from the world around them. Through our History curriculum, we inspire children to be curious about the past, developing an understanding of how people, events and societies have shaped the world in which we live today.

Our History curriculum is designed to provide children with the knowledge, skills and vocabulary needed to develop a secure understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. Through the Kapow Primary History scheme, learning is carefully sequenced through a spiralised curriculum that enables pupils to revisit and build upon prior knowledge and skills over time. This progressive approach supports long-term retention, deepens understanding and allows children to make meaningful connections between different periods of history and the world around them.

We encourage children to think like historians by asking questions, investigating evidence, exploring different perspectives and drawing informed conclusions about the past. Through the development of disciplinary knowledge, pupils learn how historical accounts are constructed and understand that interpretations of the past can differ. They develop critical thinking skills and learn to evaluate evidence, make comparisons and communicate their ideas with confidence.

Our unique rural setting and rich local heritage provide valuable opportunities to bring history to life. The Victorian origins of our school, alongside the history of Bednall and the surrounding area, enable children to engage with the past in meaningful and relevant ways. By exploring local, national and global history, pupils develop a sense of identity and belonging, whilst gaining an appreciation of how communities and societies have changed over time.

In line with our school motto, Love, Live and Learn, we aim for children to develop a love of discovering the past, live as thoughtful and informed citizens and learn from the experiences of those who came before them. Through studying both achievements and challenges throughout history, pupils develop empathy, respect and an understanding of the diverse experiences that have shaped our world. We want all children to leave All Saints with the confidence, knowledge and skills to think critically about the past, understand the present and contribute positively to the future.
