To provide our children with the best possible curriculum offer, we take a flexible approach to how learning is organised and delivered across our school. Our small cohorts, with no more than 10 pupils in each year group, allow us to tailor our class structures year on year, carefully considering the needs of each cohort and individual child, alongside our staff expertise and available resources. Depending on the subject and learning objectives, children may learn within their usual class groups, in key stage groups or in smaller phase groups. Where necessary, we teach Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper Key Stage 2 separately for certain subjects, such as Religious Education (RE) and PSHE, to ensure that learning is age-appropriate and meets relevant statutory requirements. This flexible approach brings many benefits: children build relationships across year groups, learn from and support younger peers, and develop confidence, independence and readiness for future transitions. It also enables our staff to provide targeted support and revisit previously taught skills where needed, such as phonics, helping children to consolidate their learning and address gaps in understanding. By thoughtfully adapting how we organise teaching, we provide a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that responds to our children’s needs and supports every pupil to flourish.
